In my first year online I created over 6 different products.
Believe me, this is not bragging, in fact it was one of the biggest mistakes I made when I first started out.
Here’s the thing, product creation is fun and exciting. We think about all the amazing ways our people are going to love them and get better from using them.
They’ll get healthier, smarter, more rich… oh the joy!
But, as I made all those different products I was forgetting many critical steps. Steps that could’ve made those product launches way more successful.
You see when we miss certain steps, we miss opportunities to be in the know.
I had no clue if my clients needed or wanted this products, I was going on a whim.
I didn’t know how they preferred to receive these services… again, total whim.
I felt that if I was creating products I would have more to sell and therefore make more money.
Uh-um… don’t do this, there is nothing more further from the truth. Who’d I think I was Nike?!
This is why I created a system of creating products and services that finally made me know 100% if they were needed and wanted and in turn started making the money I desired.
It’s all in working backwards my friend.
Here is my 5 step (backward) process to help you launch like a pro… even if you’ve never done this before!
Step one: Create the product. Make it ideal. You have to love it first. How can you sell something you don’t love – right?
Add features that you’ll love, especially when it comes to your coaching style. Of course you have to consider your ideal client, but if you don’t like to coach one on one then why would you put that in?
You define the boundaries and then you find the people who also would love taking part in that specific type of coaching program.
Step Two: Create a freebie that will compliment your product.
So, if you’re selling an 8 Week Nutrition & Fitness program your freebie should be similar. How about something along the lines of; My 5 best post weight training meals. Or My 10 go to workouts on the road.
This is your opportunity to share awesome information, but also spotlight how you coach – super important.
Don’t be afraid to give your very best stuff away for free, in fact I encourage you to do exactly that. People want to get to know you and your freebie most certainly gives them that opportunity. When they purchase, they are simply saying they want more of YOU because they know you so well.
Remember – know, like, and trust… all day errrday!
Step Three: Create a landing page for your opt in that speaks right to your ideal client. Not sure who that is… That’s step 1 plus+ before step one of this process.
You must know who you’re speaking to, otherwise your language potentially will not resonate with her or him and it will be an opportunity missed.
We do not want that ~ so get super specific on who you’re serving and on this opt in landing page use her language.
In your bullet points share the pain points and how your program solves their greatest struggles. Add the benefits and the benefits to that benefit. Make them go, “OMG this is speaking to me I NEED THIS!”
This is a game changer and you will significantly increase your conversion, by like 50% – not kidding!
Step Four: Market in the right places. You have to know where you’re people are hanging out online.
If you work with teens, Snapchat and Instagram is where you’ll find them. If you’re working with women who are 40+ Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkdIn, and now growing rapidly Snapchat will be where you want to be.
Be where the majority of your clients are. How do you know? ASK THEM!
Don’t forget about the power of a survey. 1 per quarter is a smart way to go when you’re learning your audience. Keep them short 1-3 questions. Gather the data and be in the know!
Step Five: Promote like crazy… like to the point that you’re sick of hearing yourself. Get out there and be in every place your ideal client is over and over and over!
Visibility is key!
Remember, we humans need to see things a lot before we click or buy, so get out there and come with confidence, knowledge, and conviction.
The power of video is where it’s at right now and honestly, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. This accelerates the know, like, and trust with your followers. Once they trust you as their reliable source… well, then my friend they are waiting for the pitch, they want to work with you.
When you work backwards it helps you keep the message and the language consistent.
You know the saying quality over quantity… the same rings true when it comes to our programs and services.
If you want to create a successful sales funnel working backwards is absolutely the best way to go.
Be in the know when it comes to your people so that you can offer them the best of the best in the most consumable way.
Your people will love you for it and you’ll build a thriving business as a result.
